Two Toronto Churches Sponsor 2SLGBTQ+ Refugees

Birchcliff Bluffs United Church embarked on a new journey in partnership with Jubilee United Church.  In late July 2019, the United Nations identified 2 persons living in a refugee camp in eastern Africa as individuals at risk of harm because of their identification within the 2SLGBTQ+ community.  In response, the United Church of Canada put out a call to congregations who would be prepared to sponsor these persons as refugees to Canada.  We are pleased to announce that this call was heard and we took action.  This will be a long journey for our community in relationship with these persons. Three volunteers from our congregation joined together with three volunteers from Jubilee United Church in Don Mills to support this work directly.  We ask everyone to keep the people involved in your prayers as we welcomed new persons to this country, offering them an opportunity to live an authentic life without fear of abuse or torture for simply being who they are.  We will provide updates and requests for specific assistance as we go forward.  If you are able to support this work, please connect bbucoffice@bellnet.ca.
